1. You Don’t Need to Pay for Cricut Design Space
One of the biggest misconceptions about Cricut projects is that you need to pay for a Cricut Design Space subscription. While it does come with perks, you don’t have to pay to create stunning Cricut projects. There are plenty of free alternatives available!
Free Fonts: Many sites offer free fonts that you can use in your Cricut projects for beginners. Just make sure they are marked “free for commercial use” if you plan to sell your crafts.
SVG Files & Graphics: Websites like Creative Fabrica (click here to join with my link )*offer thousands of free and affordable SVGs to use in your designs.
Canva & Procreate: If you’re comfortable with design, you can create your own unique Cricut ideas using Canva or Procreate and upload them to Design Space.
Save your money for materials and let the free resources do the work for you!
2. Always Check Your Cuts Before Removing Your Mat
There’s nothing more frustrating than peeling up your Cricut project only to realise it didn’t cut all the way through. Before completely removing your mat from your Cricut machine, do this simple hack:
Check your cut by gently lifting a corner of your material.
If it’s not cut all the way through, press the Cricut button again—this will recut the project in the exact same place.
This trick works wonders, especially when working with thicker materials like glitter cardstock, faux leather, or acetate.
3. Prevent Cardstock from Curling When Removing from the Mat
If you’ve ever struggled with cardstock curling when you peel it off your Cricut mat, you’re not alone. This happens because the material sticks too well and bends as you remove it. Here’s how to avoid that:
Flip your mat upside down and peel the mat away from the project, rather than peeling your project off the mat.
This keeps your Cricut projects nice and flat, preventing unwanted bends or damage.
This Cricut hack is especially useful for delicate Cricut projects for beginners, like cake toppers, intricate invitations, or delicate paper flowers.
4. Get Cleaner Cuts on Intricate Text & Designs
We all love using fancy fonts for Cricut projects, but intricate cuts can be tricky! If you find that your letters or fine details are tearing, try this Cricut hack:
Lay your cardstock face down on the mat
Mirror your design in Cricut Design Space
Select intricate cardstock setting
Why does this work? Cricut machines cut cleaner on the back of cardstock, reducing tearing and leaving you with crisp, professional-looking cuts.
This is perfect for detailed Cricut ideas like greeting cards, vinyl decals, or wedding invitations.
5. Make Thin Fonts Thicker for Easier Cutting
Sometimes, the perfect font for your Cricut project is just too thin, making it difficult to weed or cut cleanly. Instead of searching for a thicker font, use this Cricut hack to make any font thicker:
Select your text in Cricut Design Space
Go to Offset and add a tiny 0.02-0.05 offset
Apply and weld the layers together
Now, your design is thicker, sturdier, and easier to cut! This trick works great for Cricut projects for beginners who struggle with intricate weeding.
